National Will Register
“Certainty.co.uk” is the UK’s first online registry for Wills. It is endorsed by the Law Society, registration is easy and it ensures rapid and reliable location of Wills and the ability to search for missing or lost Wills. Glazer Delmar have become a founder member of this Will register in South East London.
Reasons to register your Will
Over time your circumstances change; you might move house or enter a new relationship and keeping your Will safe may be the last thing on your mind. With Certainty.co.uk we can register your Will and allow your family to easily locate your Will following your death and ensure that your last wishes are respected.
In a recent public survey, 67% of people asked did not know the location of their parents’ Wills. If you are one of those people who do not know the location of their own or their parents’ Wills then you may one day be glad of this Will register which can easily locate a Will when needed.
Although we keep a database of all the Wills which we hold, sometimes people change their Wills without us knowing. The register ensures that solicitors across the country can log the existence of Wills in a central place. This should ensure that your Will, or any updated version of it, is not overlooked.
What happens if you don’t register?
If your Will is not found, or worse still, if you haven’t made one, then your loved ones may not receive the inheritance that you would wish. They would only get the proportions laid down by law, and of course family disputes can then occur. So for your own peace of mind, the best advice is to make or review your Will with your solicitor and ask them to register it with Certainty.co.uk.
What does the Register do?
- The Register records that we are holding your Will. No one at the Register actually sees it and we keep it
- Following your death, the Register gives us details about anyone who asks them about your Will
- We answer the query if it is legitimate, but if not, we ignore it, thus protecting your privacy
Although Glazer Delmar has taken care of all Wills lodged here in the past, and will continue to do so, there has never before been a national Wills register and we do believe this service would be of benefit to our clients.
