CASE STUDY 1 - Divorce and Ancillary Relief

Mrs W of Tulse Hill

“I discovered, out of the blue, that my husband was seeing someone at work. At first he said he would only move out of the house if I agreed to sell it straightaway and then he moved in with his girlfriend and stopped paying the mortgage and bills. I was left to look after the children and was terrified we would lose our home.
"Glazer Delmar told me that I did not have to sell the house until the children were grown up and they negotiated child support payments with my husband so I did not have to move. GD explained everything to me and went out of their way to deal with my husband reasonably after he said he could not afford a solicitor. Their friendly and efficient approach made the whole experience much more bearable.”

CASE STUDY 2 - Co-habitation

Ms E of New Cross

“My former partner and I moved into his house a year and a half after he bought it. We never discussed shares or went through any legal formalities, but the home was always considered to be a family home and we had two children before splitting up. Glazer Delmar advised me that I could claim a share in the property and negotiated a lump sum payment from my partner without me having to go to court. I was very pleased as I was always being told by friends that since I was not married to my partner, I was not entitled to anything.”

CASE STUDY 3 – Ancillary Relief

Mrs M of Dulwich

“My husband and I were married for 28 years before we separated. He had a very good job and a big pension, whilst I was on a low income. With Glazer Delmar’s support, I was able to negotiate a pension sharing order which gave me some financial security into my old age and a lump sum before a clean break .”

CASE STUDY 4 – Domestic Violence

Mrs T of East Dulwich

My partner turned very violent after we married and ended up being both physically and verbally abusive towards me and the children. I never told anyone of the abuse we were subjected to as I thought it was very shameful. Eventually I was advised by a very close friend to approach Glazer Delmar. GD helped me get an emergency injunction order for six months so I could get back into the house and prevent my husband coming back there or using violence towards me. They were very discreet and professional about everything. This gave me time to get back on my feet and apply to a housing association for a new home where I could make a new start. Glazer Delmar also referred me to a contact centre so that the children could carry on seeing their father without putting me at risk . “ I never knew you could get a court order so quickly!”

CASE STUDY 5 – Children

Ms P of Herne Hill

My partner and I separated after 12 years. We had two children, both were born before December 2003 and my partner’s name was not on their birth certificate. My partner kept telling me that he had a legal right to the children and therefore he could make any plans he wanted regarding the children and I could not do anything about it. This made my life miserable as he was turning up at all hours at the front door, taking the children away from me. This made the children very distressed. We could not get to talk to each other. Glazer Delmar referred us to a family mediator so that we could sort out contact arrangements for the children ourselves and we were able to resolve the matter without the need to make an application at court.
